10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW TO BE COME A FILM MAKER by Johnnie oddball |

10 Things you need to become a FILM MAKER 1. A baseball cap - All great film-makers have baseball caps - Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola etc. me . Note, this isn't sexist, women can have baseballcaps too. The main reason is it covers your bad hair style or in my case no hair style ,As your hair always has a bad day effect on set from rain to bright sun light to wind damage a cap is useful for this as i covers your head and you look kind of cool if its a panavision one!
Oddball , Zappi , Zefirelli. You don't hear of anyone making films called mr smith, so I changed my name so people would remember it but it has its draw backs when your trying to get a flight or a bank account! change your name to something daft like me go for it . How to come up with that is up to you ? close your eyes and type something seeing what it spells. If it looks really strange your half way there Alternatively just go for a nick name your friend call you (that's the nice one)
Directors always sit about while others do the work . Not on my movies ,I spend more time with the actors and actress as i can they way you bond with them and find out things you can use in the film where they don't look like their acting ,The chair is ideal for the place to hang your jacket and keep the script on it so you know where it is ,I find them to last about a few weeks then you find your self trying to get on the thing and its busted ,an old deck chair is wonderful ,I know they don't look the part but at least you can sleep in the thing?
Well this makes you look a like the real real but remember to take the lense cap of the camera 1st!
be yourself there are so many egos in the film industry you could fill a 3rd world country with,The best thing is to not be fake and don't try to impress people with the word director ,I found by making the tea and coffee for the cast n crew gain's you so much more respect from them than telling them stories ,You need to know who your working with on your film to gain their trust is a quirk
This is hard unless they are film makers as well ,It hard work trying to make a film ,Without trying to keep your friends happy as well
The best way to start learning to be a director is by making commercials), this is a hard industry to get into ,Even more than film ,But if you do get into it its reeps so many rewards and contacts and exp in directing ,If you can attract people to watch an advert for just 30 second think how hard that is to do in 90 mins of a movie ,RIdley scott is just one of the master's of this concept ,
If you think it will help buy a t shirt with director on it ,Well its as good as reading "how to be a director from a book" or paying £1000 to do a rainda**e course,You become a director by doing it for real and by taking the plunge ,Stop talking about it and go out their and direct something with actors ,This is the only way you will learn how to be a director for real , Start working with actors and actress ,This way you can gain the best experience in becoming a director ,I started making short films with other directors to learn the ropes and gain exp from the way they worked ,This helps but you find that you have a style of your own , 10. What is a director -I look at directors as visionary's who look at telling a storie from a script in a way it can relate to the audience ,A director never knows it all but looks and sounds as if he does without saying a word ,Gain the cast n crew's confidence and anything as possible ,Without them you have no movie ,Team work and taking onboard others ideas helps you look at the piece in different light which can work and look wonderful ,Once you have a cast n crew you can trust keep them close to you on every film you make ,Drop the ego and work with others
