The National 48hr Film Challenge event 2003
WHAT IS THE 48HR FILM CHALLENGE ?
The Challenge is for independent filmmaker's ,It
combines film production with a festival atmosphere.
The premise? Filmmaking teams have just one weekend to make a short film. All creativity-writing, shooting, editing and adding a musical soundtrack-must occur in a 48 hour window beginnings on a sat morning
and ending monday morning before 1pm , the completed films are then screened a week later in the cinema the took up the challenge and then screened to an eager audience.
What are
the films about?
That's up to the filmmaker; however, each filmmaker must select the genre
& tilte for his/her movie in a random drawing 15 minutes before the
start of the competition. In the past, genres have included: film noir,
comedy, horror, romance, mystery, and superhero, to name a few. In addition,
all teams are given a title , that must appear in each film.
Who sees
the films?
To date, the films have screened to sold-out audiences in every venue
we've visited. The typical audience is young, educated, cosmopolitan and
professional. Audience ages range from 15 to 80 years of age and were
equally split between males and females.
Who are
the filmmakers?
The 48 Hour Film challenge is open to all filmmakers, pro and novice alike.
Rules stipulate that all team members (crew and cast) must be volunteers.
Most teams consist of film and video professionals. And teams have attracted
some top talent on both sides of the camera. One movie featured appearance
of robie from east enders ,There were lots of named directors who went
under assumed names ,so not sway the jury members
How long
are the films?
The films are short; they must be a minimum and a maximum of 5 minutes
long.
Where and
when are they shown?
The movies are all screened at a grand premiere in a commercial movie
theater in london . A guaranteed standing-room-only audience of tired,
excited filmmakers, crews and friends are in attendance to cheer on the
films. Additional screenings are scheduled for later in the week.
What cities
has the 48 Hour Film challenge visit?
The project began in london in 2002 . And then in Edinburgh ,Manchester,Bristol
& London in 2003, the project was on a four city tour: second half.
Next year, the 48 Hour Film challenge will do an international tour of
the USA and again the UK in 2004 This time we challenge the USA and the
USA challenge us to the challenge
How is
the event advertised?
The event is advertised over the Internet and through local press. It
has tremendous word-of-mouth reach, with local filmmaking communities
helping spread the word. In each city, the 48 Hour Film challenge generated
considerable interest from local and national media. The results: A free
AUDI for the whole event ,Some top sponsors inc ADOBE ,UKFILM COUNCIL
& CHANNEL 4 & CURZON CINEMA & EDINBURGH FILM FESTIVAL ; prominent
stories in the guardian time out times in Scotland and showreel magazine
; as well as stories in local newspapers
Is this
a contest and will there be a "Best of" selection?
Yes and yes. Three films from each region will be chosen as winners ,Who
then are shortlisted in the final 12 films for the grand final in london
,Were there is then announced one National winner and two runners up.
An annual awards weekend will include a ceremony to celebrate the winning
teams, and then a premiere of the Best of the 48 Hour Film challenge will
be screened on the channel 4 website and screened in the curzon again
one evening for any of the other film makers and gen public to see for
free , dates t.b.c " This compilation will ultimately be released
in theaters in each region for everyone to see , & on a dvd of the
top 10 shortlisted films for the teams , and/or broadcast on television
on sky digital t.b.c times and dates of films

THE REASON I STARTED THE CHALLENGES WAS FOR 1/FUN AND 2/TO GET FILM MAKERS DOING WHAT THEY LOVE ,FILM MAKING , THE EVENT WAS THERE TO GET FILM MAKERS OFF THERE ARSE'S AND MAKING FILMs ,WHICH 460 FILM MAKERS DID AND THEY WERE ALL WONDERFUL AS I SAW EVERY SINGLE ONE ,THE EVENT DID WHAT IT SET OUT TO DO & GOT FILM MAKERS MAKING FILMS ,IM NOT GOING TO PROMOTE MY NAME OFF OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK ,YOU NOW HAVE A SHORT FILM WHICH YOU CAN ENTER INTO FESTIALS
AND PROMOTE THE BRITISH FILM INDUSTRY WITH GREAT FILMS AND SHOW PEOPLE WHAT TALENT YOU HAVE IN FILM MAKING ,
