- 22/9/05 For last few days i have been returning emails from people asking about the challenge Questions like can they have under 18s in their films (Not without parents consent) plus other questions on cameras , you can use any DVCAM cameras as long as you return a mini dv size DVCAM tape for screening ? same with HDV cameras as long as you return your film on mini dv HDV tapes its fine , camera with 3ccd are also OK for the event, but nothing lower then 3ccd cameras , i have also had loads of emails from people wanting to be zombies for my Halloween trailer shoot which we are shooting around the IMAX cinema on Sunday the 25th , i have over 60+ zombies and a few Vampires so far and its growing every day , the trailer is for screening in the IMAX cinema on the Launch of the event on Oct 29th which will be fun , its been a nightmare sorting out the logistics of the shoot but i am getting their who said directing over 60 people an easy task i do nothing easy , i have been up some nights till 3am trying to storyboard the shots so i don't have people standing about in zombie costumes , it will take some time to do the make up for the cast but i have three make up artist including myself on the case !
- it has to be run like a military operation down to the last detail on Sunday , sat i am doing a recce of the locations to see what and where we can shoot Sunday its going to be mad but that's what i do ! johnnie oddball
- 2/7/05 IMAX cinema meeting :
- Entry fee change was due to costs towards projector hire and admin. costs and now dvds for all teams taking part and venue costs
- I met with the people who run events at the IMAX cinema in waterloo ,its got to be one of the best looking cinemas i the UK , i see it every day on my way to soho, it was amazing to see inside for the 1st time its like a wall of a screen amazing place ,it made me think how it would be for film makers to see their film on this big screen , they sound very excited about my event being held at their venue as they know of the event from the UK film council's great feedback , we sort out how to schedule the event including the screening time as Halloween falls on a Monday which is fine for some and a nightmare for others , i have only two hours to screening time for all the films made within the challenge at the IMAX , i thought i would have to limit the number of teams taking part but that wouldn't work so i will just have to shortlist the best 20 films for screening and do another screening of the other films in the party venue in the IMAX and maybe do a screening later of all the films not screened , i always promise to screen all the films and i will , so i have to make the the films three mins each so we can get more teams in the two hour screening , but the only thing is the format i want to push HD but its not easy so i will make it DVCAM and HDV instead but using mini dv size tapes for screening , so its easy for teams to get the kits ? i know nothing of this format but that will not stop me doing it , if i think like that i can't be the only one who wants to know more about this new format am i ? film makers in the USA are making feature films on this format the same way we are making them on pd150's , with this format they will leave our film makers behind again like they did with dvcam ? which is why im here to change all that ! , i love to inspire film makers as it inspires me to do more events for them i take the events so personal as its not just an event im doing something for others which inspires them to go on to bigger things ,some people say i do too much for others in the industry , i always reply to them by saying , i do it cos no one ever did it for me when i started out! i started out doing it the hard way to learn what i love and im still doing it the hard way 10 years later but at least I've not given up the dream of making films ,like so many who have come and gone over the years around me , but i have produced over 600 short films in three years films which would never of been made without my events which makes it worth doing it again and again ,it is hard but you have to keep going whatever it takes to do what you love , i was not going to do another event but then i thought why not if it works and film makers really get something from it what the hell lets have some fun ! , its like making a great movie which people want to exp again and again ,hidden talent will always come out from my events , talent which would never of thought of picked up a camera before this event came along , little things like that make you think its worth all the effort not many people do things for others anymore its always egos which get in the way , with this event their is no time for egos just real team work and a real passion about what their doing its so exciting to see peoples faces when their film is being screened on the big screen its amazing that i had a part in doing that for them ...
